General Hospital star Nicholas Chavez has been cast as Lyle Melendez in Ryan Murphy’s latest true crime-inspired anthology.
Last year’s winner for Best Young Performer at the Daytime Emmys, Nicholas has played the role of Spencer Cassidine since the summer of 2021. Nicholas is nominated once again this year, but in the Supporting Actor category alongside three of his GH costars.
The timing of the announcement comes as a bit of a surprise. It is unknown whether the actor will be leaving the ABC soap opera, as it was believed the actor has another year left in his contract.
Both Nicholas and his incredibly talented co-star Tabyana Ali were featured in this week’s People Magazine. The article highlights the popularity of their characters and the potential for the coupling of Spencer and Trina.
The article was a rare mention of a daytime soap opera appearing in a mainstream publication. Usually only scandals, the death of an actor, and a soap opera’s cancellation are considered newsworthy.
The project is a follow-up to producer Ryan Murphy’s popular (and controversial) Jeffrey Dahmer series for Netflix.
The American Horror Story producer was criticized for what seemed like a romanticization of the serial killer and for treating the victims who were all young, gay men of color as afterthoughts.
Updates to follow as the story is just breaking….
