Latest Soap Opera Ratings: ‘General Hospital’ Tops Olympics During Week Of Valentine’s Day

This week marked the second full week of the Olympic Games on NBC, as well as soccer preemptions of the CBS soaps on the West Coast. Last week, I posited that General Hospital might steal second place because of the fact that it would be the only daytime drama airing in some parts of the country. While I was a tad bit optimistic (okay very optimistic), GH did have a great week.

#GeneralHospital Has Second-Biggest Week in Four Months

GH was up by 107,000 viewers from both last week and the previous year. The five percent gain brought the audience total to 2,268,000 viewers for the week of February 14th, making it the ABC soap opera’s second biggest week since October.

The demographics also brought positive news for ABC. GH was up in women 25 to 54 by eight percent to a 0.57 rating, but was flat with women 18 to 49 with a 0.33 rating. Looking back at last year, GH was off by seven percent in women 25 to 54 and eleven percent among women 18 to 49.

Winter Olympics Fail to Beat Soap Competition During Second Week, Lower Than Last Year’s #DAYS

NBC remained in 4th place with just 1,875,000 viewers tuning in for the Winter Olympics just 25,000 viewers more the last week of Days Of Our Lives. The final week of competing was down eleven percent from their performance the prior week. Last year, DAYS actually pulled in more viewers than the games with 1,947,000 viewers turning in for what ranks as the most watched week since April of 2020.

CBS Soaps Take A Hit From Last Year

Y&R was up from last week and last year in total viewers hitting 3,505,000. The number one soap was up by 14,000 viewers from the previous week and added 201,000 viewers from last year. Y&R fell three percent to a season-low 0.36 rating among women 18 to 49, but inched upward in women 25 to 54 by two percent to a 0.65 rating. Last year, Y&R was considerably higher in both categories and fell by 22 percent and 16 percent respectively.

B&B dipped by 24,000 viewers to 2,941,000 for the week, but was up by 4,000 viewers from last year. Among women 18 to 49, the half-hour soap slipped from a 0.36 to a 0.35 rating. Despite the drops in the other categories, B&B was steady with the previous week’s 0.61 in women 25 to 54. Just like sister-soap Y&R, the Los Angeles-set series was down considerably from last year with drops of 19 percent among younger women and 13 percent among the older demographic.
