‘General Hospital’ Hits Season High In Total Viewers, Most Watched Week Since April 2020
This week, GH hit a 13-month high with 2.276 million viewers tuning in. The last time more viewers was April 20-24, 2020 which was the last week of CBS’ soaps new episodes before the shutdown. The previous season high was the week of February 12th, with 2.257 million viewer. That particular week was notable in that all four soaps hit their season high. However, due to the impeachment trial only one episode aired that week for all four soaps. No soap opera besides GH has been able to outdo the numbers from that shortened week.
GH Tied its Highest Ratings in Women 18-49 since November 30th
GH tied its highest ratings in Women 18-49 since November with a .39 rating in the demographic. The week is among its top five weeks in the demographic since returning from the pandemic related shutdown in August. In women 25-54, GH hit a .63 which tied for the second highest performance in the demographic since the week of November 30th. That week viewers learned who died in the explosion at the Floating Rib. Season To Date GH Has Lost The Fewest Total Viewers of All Four Soaps Versus Last Year
Season to date, the soap is averaging 2.12 million viewers compared to 2.18 million for the 2019-2020 season. The 60,000 viewer decline is just -3% from last year. Y&R is down 12% to 3.201 million viewers, B&B is down 13% to 2.77, and DAYS is down 9% to 1.7 million.
All Soaps Are Down from Last Year in Key Demographics
In the demographics, GH is averaging a .35 in W18-49 and .57 in 25-54. Last Season, the soap ended with .44 and .70. Y&R is currently averaging .43 and is in first place, B&B has averaged a .38 and DAYS has a .31 rating. In the 18-49 demo, GH and B&B are down 21%, Y&R & DAYS are down 17%.In 25-54, GH is down 18%, DAYS is down 21%, B&B – 15% and Y&R 14%.
GH is up From Before Shutdown Finale and Post Shutdown Premiere
GH saw steep declines after the COVID-19 shutdown, but has largely bounced back. In the first week after the shutdown in August, 1.907 million viewers tuned in ABC soap opera. That was a drop of 13% from the last week of original episodes in May 2020. The current average for the season is 7% higher than its return. When compared to the most recent week of episodes GH has managed to increase 19% from August and is up 5% from the week prior to the shutdown.
